Ben Cook is a master metalworker, craftsman, and artisan. He has designed and built everything from full-sized climbing walls to clothing fixtures for high fashion boutiques in New York City. After spending a few decades learning all the ins and outs of TIG welding, stick welding, and wire feed welding, Ben has thrown himself into the art of woodworking. This new passion allows him to realize a long-held dream: creating beautiful, unique furniture with a lifespan that's measured in generations, not seasons.
Based out of Cazenovia, NY, Ben takes commissions from architects, designers, and individuals. He can design and create a structural piece like a staircase, railing, or door, or he can work within design constraints like size, function, and cost to make something truly distinctive.
Ben has several pieces for sale in local furniture stores and boutiques, but he prefers to work closely with a given client in order to create something that works perfectly for a space.
Through his years of working for various fabrication shops and from studying architecture at a small liberal arts college, Ben has an expert sense of how a piece should look, feel, and function. He can take as a starting point a client's vague specification or piece of visual inspiration and turn it into something that will serve as a conversation piece, something useful and imaginative.
Ben's design style marries the soft warmth of wood to steel, which has a heavy duty, industrial ruggedness. The combination, along with his high level of craftsmanship, creates something memorable that is meant to last.
A strong streak of independence runs through Ben Cook's work. He is uncompromising in selecting the perfect materials and means to create a piece that will delight his clients. He builds things that will impress upon first glance and serve for many, many years to come.
